Welcome to Langofone, your mobile language tutor!

With Langofone you can learn a language with your cell phone - or simply get assistance with finding a word or phrase in a foreign language. Langofone enables you to practise pronunciation, as well as listening and reading comprehension. Langofone is perfect for the traveler who would like to make an good first impression or for anybody who would like to “brush up” his or her language skills, or even start to learn a new language. Langofone is different from traditional phrase books, since all words and phrases are presented, not only in text, but also in audio format.

Constant repetition is needed for efficient language learning. That is why we have built this application for cell phones, so that it is available whenever you have a spare moment.

Langofone is compatible with about 90 per cent of all cell phones on the European market.

How to use it:

Choose a phrase that you would like to learn how to pronounce. Listen to the phrase and repeat it in order to learn how to pronounce it. You can listen to the phrase an unlimited number of times by pressing the play button. When you believe that you know how to pronounce the phrase, you can record your pronunciation by pressing the microphone button. You will now hear the phrase once more. After the signal, when the green progression bar appears, you shall repeat the phrase. When you have recorded a phrase you will have four options:

1. Click on the icon on the bottom left corner to listen to your recording.
2. Click on the icon on the bottom left corner to send your recording to a friend, as an MMS.
3. In order to analyse your recording, click on the analyse button in the middle of your screen. Each analyse costs one credit. When you have pressed the analyse button, your recording is sent to our server for analysis. Within a few seconds, you will receive a score comparing your recording with the reference phrase.
4. In order to go back one step in the menu, you should press the button in the right corner of your screen.

Quiz (reading and listening comprehension)

How to use it:

Choose which course ("package" or list of phrases) you would like to use. Langofone then randomly selects one phrase in audio format and five text phrases of which one is correct. You are allowed to listen to the audio file as many times as you wish. When you believe that you know what the audio file means, you make your selection. If you choose the correct translation, Langofone will tell you:
“Good answer!” and continues with a new audio file and new optional translations to choose from. If you make the wrong choice, Langofone tells you: “Sorry, wrong answer” and gives you the correct translation and then continues with a new audio file and new translations. 

Langofone stores all incorrect answers in an "incorrect answer folder" and automatically chooses phrases from this folder more often so that you will have a better chance of learning these phrases.

Course Manager

How to use it:

In the menu you will find ”course manager”. This is where you handle all content i.e. courses, phrases and vocabulary. You can download new lessons, "packages", in the available languages by clicking “Get a new course”. When you download new courses, you first choose "source language" and then the "destination language", i.e. the language that you would like to learn. A list with all courses for that language combination is shown. Choose the course you would like to download and, if you have enough credits in your account, the downloading start. If you don’t have enough credits, Langofone will ask you if you would like to purchase more credits. Follow the instructions and your account will be credited with the amount of credits you just purchased. The price for credits is clearly stated before you confirm your purchase. Your purchases will appear on your next cell phone bill.

You can always go to “My account” to see how many credits you have left. You can see all your downloaded courses in “My courses” and choose, which course you would like to work with.

Languages

The Langofone application can be used for any language. We are constantly working on adding more content (languages, phrases and courses). The languages available today are: English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swahili and Swedish and any combination thereof. 

Courses/packages available today are:

BASIC is a course for people who would like learn the most basic phrases and words. BASIC includes useful phrases like: "My name is...", "How much is it?", "I love you" etc. BASIC is divided in three parts, two lessons and one vocabulary.

AT THE RESTAURANT is a number of phrases and words which are useful when you are visiting a restaurant. You will learn how to order, say cheers, ask for the bill, etc.

HOTEL is a course useful when you need to communicate with hotel staff, including making complaints.

AT THE BAR, is a course to facilitate communication when visiting a bar. If you know these phrases, you will definitely impress some people on your next visit to the bar. 

SHOPPING. Are you a shopaholic? If so, this course will be helpful for you. SHOPPING will teach you phrases that are necessary when you go shopping abroad. You will learn how to ask for different colours, sizes and also how to bargain, etc.

AIRPORT/AIR PLANE. This course is useful when travelling by air.

PICK UP LINES is a number of phrases useful when wou would like to get to know a pleasant foreigner speaking another language than yours. (We can't guarantee that you will be successful, however...).

These phrases were not permitted by App Store, so they are not available for iPhone.
